Catching a big fish in Croatian Adriatic

While sailing the Adriatic, it only makes sense to try fishing. Nothing compares to a freshly caught dinner. Once we timed 90 minutes between catching a Palamida (Atlantic Bonito) and throwing the bare bones back into the sea.

One lazy afternoon, while sailing at 6 knots on Bavaria 49 and nearly forgetting we were trolling a 13 cm (made in Ireland) the big surprise came in a shape of Lampuga or Zlatoskuša (Common Dolphinfish, Dorado).
Our 2 skippers were wrestling with the fish for about 45 minutes…

The moral of the story is “Be prepared”!

The Rapala net that easily accommodates a few kilos worth Palamida specimen proved to be a toy when it comes to Lampuga. Needless to say we got a proper hook in the next port.
