One of the most beautiful spots in the Adriatic is Biševska Luka (also called Porat) on the Island of Biševo. Biševo (Bishevo) lies to the southwest of Vis Island and is one of the most far-out Dalmatian Islands. It is mainly known for the Blue Cave (Modra spilja), but for those willing to explore further Biševska Luka is a hidden gem, away from more busy sailing routes.
There are two small taverns and a bar on the beach where you can try some local food and vine and then there is pretty much nothing else! The beach is surely in the Adriatic top ten, with soft sand and warm shallow sea, ideal for children to splash around, making sandcastles and adults to work on the tan and just chill out. It is well worth staying the night to enjoy an evening in a cosy atmosphere of local taverns. Prices are very reasonable and you will always find nice
company of other keen sailors or locals getting away from it all during hot summer
months.
Next morning catch the early sun and awaken to an empty beach and crystal clear sea. If you are too early for the beach café bar to be open the local tavern owner just might offer to share his own freshly brewed pot of coffee! Stick around for a while and you may hear some great fishing stories as well as those from far away seas.
The bay is safe to anchor in the inner part, between the depth of 5 and 10m. It offers shelter from Jugo (southerly wind) and Bura (only temporary) but is very open to W and SW winds and it should be abandoned immediately in those weather conditions. There are no moorings or a buoy, therefore no charges either. Be extra careful to empty your septic tanks far out at sea as the tide can be strong enough to bring everything back in. There are modest toilet facilities on shore for those not having a black tank on the yacht.
